The percentage of low birth-weight infants (born weighing less than 5 pounds, 8 ounces) in 2005: 8.2% (up from 8.1% in 2004)
The percentage of children ages 3 to 5 who weren’t attending kindergarten but were read to daily by a family member in 2005: 60% (up from 53% in 1993)
The percentage of children who had at least one parent working full-time, year round in 2005: 78.3% (up from 77.6% in 2004)
The percentage of youth completing high school in 2005: 88% (up from 84% in 1980)
The teenage birth rate for girls ages 15 to 17 in 2005: 21 per 1,000, an all-time low (down from 39 births per 1,000 girls ages 15 to 17 in 1991)
